Skin Lighteners for
Removing
Age Spots and Other Dark Spots on Face |
|
|
Everywhere you look there are new
products
that claim to help you look younger. Health and Beauty magazines, the
Internet, and the shopping channels all have countless advertisements
for the next miracle product. We've decided to take them to task to see
if we can find products that really work and can back up all of the
hype. Instead of buying them all and trying them yourself, save the
money and read what we found when reviewing the products first.
Below we've reviewed some of the more
popular skin lighteners on the market. You can find skin lighteners in
your local drug store, online, and in specialty shops, and they range
from a few dollars to more than a hundred each. We found some that
worked well in our tests, and highly recommend both Maladerm
(our #1 pick) and Prevage (our #2 pick)
for dark spots on face and hands.
Please
remember to use a moisturizer
with SPF
30 after using any of these products to avoid further damage to your
skin from the sun.

The new
Meladerm formula incorporates some
of the latest and most cutting edge skin care technologies to help
diminish the appearance of dark spots and unwanted
pigmentation in as little as two weeks.
The new formula not only works to brighten the overall complexion, but
also lightens the appearance of age spots, liver spots, other dark spots on face and hands, freckles, sun
damage, melasma, tans, acne marks, scars, skin discolorations and
birthmarks. Civant
Skincare
has left nothing to chance with its flagship product Meladerm. They
have even used an airless vacuum dispenser so the product isn't
degraded by contact with air.
We found Meladerm to do a great job of reducing dark spots on the skin.
It was mild enough to not cause any noticeable irritation or redness,
and there were no undesired side effects although one reviewer noticed
a tingling sensation after it was applied. The moisturizers in the
product actually softened the skin during the review.
This is the best product we've reviewed because it evened the skin tone
better than all but one of the other products tested; only Emlite
worked better, but it costs twice as much. We also like the fact that
Meladerm uses natural plant extracts instead of hydroquinone, mercury,
steroids or other harsh bleaches. Meladerm
is our number one choice for products to reduce liver spots, age spots,
melasma, or freckles on the face and hands.

| A
Key Note |
|
Many skin lightening
products, especially those found in your local drugstore, contain
hydroquinone as their primary active ingredient. Hydroquinone is a
strong skin bleacher that can cause mild to severe side effects. Some
users report redness , irritation, and sensitivity to the sun after
using products with hydroquinone. It has also been documented to cause
"Exogenous Ochronosis" in people with darker skin; this condition
causes a a darkening of the skin in blue-black patches. None
of the products we reviewed contain
hydroquinone.

Prevage Anti-Aging Treatment by Elizabeth Arden
is a restorative treatment that is designed to both protect and restore
the skin. The active ingredient, idebenone, is a proven antioxidant
that corrects and prevents degenerative cellular damage caused by years
of a harmful environment. In clinical tests, it both reduced the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improved the appearance of
sun-damaged skin.
We found Pravage to
do a great job of reducing dark spots on face and hands. It was mild enough to
not cause any irritation or redness. It generally also improved the
overall tone and elasticity of the skin. In addition, several reviewers
found that they also noticed a significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
If the price wasn't quite so high this product would be our number one
choice because it works so well and because it treats multiple signs of aging. At $155, however, it's difficult to recommend Prevage Anti-Aging Treatment to the
average shopper. If you can afford it however, you won't be
disappointed.

Whether your dark spots are due to too much
time in the sun — or simply too much time — The
Bliss Sleeping Peel Liver
Spot Lifter tackles them with the most advanced formula available.
Developed by an over-achieving dermatologist, it is made with amino
acid antioxidants and asefitida extract. Use this light, clear,
fast-absorbing, fragrance-free serum on your face, hands or body to
help lighten sun spots, pigment scars, and other dark spots on face and hands. It is safe for all skin types.
The Liver
Spot Lifter
worked much faster than the other products in our review.
Unfortunately, it also seemed harsher as well. Although the dark spots
faded quickly, in one case it caused redness and peeling first. If you
need something that works fast, this might be it. Just be careful to
use it somewhere discreet to find out how you will react first before
you try it on your face.

The Arouge
NanoBrightening
Set is a three-piece kit that contains Arouge Skin Balancing
Toner Mist to prepare your skin for the treatments, Arouge Moisture
Replenishing Cream to hydrate your skin, and Aruge Lumina Skin
Brightener to actually brighten the skin. When used together, this set
of skin care products will enhance the bright, youthful glow of the
skin.
In our tests, the Arouge routine wasn't as effective at removing spots
as other products. It did, however, do a very good job at toning up the
skin and leaving it brighter overall. The Arouge
products work well together and
leave the skin feeling and looking very healthy and radiant. Based on
their website, this looks to be targeted as a skin brightener for the
Asian market, and based on our tests, it should work well for that
market.
Although the Arouge
treatments left our skin feeling like we'd had a very
expensive facial, it didn't really meet our needs as a product to
remove dark spots. It's also somewhat expensive, but if you are looking
for a good regimen to replenish your skin, you might give it a try.
